The
Leonard Clevett and Bridget Toomey story
How did these
two meet and marry, when one was born in Fulking in West Sussex
and the other in County Wicklow in Ireland?
Back in November
2005, I received a wonderful e-mail from Joanne Fogarty who is
the Granddaughter of the above.
"I'm
writing to say that my grandparents met during there time at the Spring
Valley hostel, they are both on the electoral role of Spring Valley
1945, Leonard Clevett and Bridget Toomey.
Leonard
(Len), he was from Fulking in West Sussex; and Bridget (Bridy) was
originally from County Wicklow in Ireland, although she would've been
living in the Brighton/Hove area of Sussex prior to her stay in
Coventry. It seems that the war did bring them together in Coventry,
despite their geographical proximity beforehand.
They
were later married and lived on the south coast of England in
West Sussex.

They
had two children, and from there on seven grandchildren and up to now
three great grand children.
I hope this is of
some help to you. The site has plenty of information on it, but to
get photos and stuff it really depends upon the viewers to participate
which can be very difficult, so I wish you luck with it all for the
future.
Yours
Joanne Fogarty"
Like a huge amount of people like Len &
Bridget, World War Two completely changed their lives bring them from different
parts of the county to Coventry to work as part of the war effort.
Fate put them into the same hostel where love
blossomed and they married and raised a family and now have great
grandchildren, who we hope will be able to read and tell this small part
of their family story to their children and friends.
If you have a
story to tell like this, please get in touch with us, we really need and
want to bring the site live with your stories.
