The local history group has moved!
|
|
After
nearly nine years at the library the history have moved into the
refurbished
Hagard
Community Centre with the help of the
‘Your Neighbourhood Matters’ money.
As part of the grant funding we are
holding a
Welcome to Willenhall’
event on Saturday 20th
February from 11am to 2pm.
The
group have over the years amassed a huge collection of documents
and photographs of the local area These will be on display and
open for you to come and see the vast changes that have taken
place over the years,
Talks, Bring your stories & pictures evenings, help with family
history, are just a few of the ideas for this year, we need you
to let us know what you would like to hear about, so come along
and let us know and we maybe able to arrange a talk on that
subject or an event.
Each Tuesday whilst the coming to the Car Boot, call in have and
stop for a chat. We hope to be opening up a ‘History Office’ so
that we can have easy access to our records and photograph
albums for you to see. Bring along your photos so we can copy
them and add those special moments to the collection thus adding
another important piece to the jigsaw which is Willenhall
history. |

The group have designed a set of
‘History Panels’ for the new café area with funding from the
Heart of England Community Foundation, by changing the original
grant application to include the costs involved in designing,
collating, and manufacturing the same.
In total there will seven boards
showing the history of Willenhall, the history of the Hagard,
and the ‘new’ Willenhall, i.e. what has changed and new in the
past 15 years
The move will also enable
the group to acquire and store a better collection of historical
items for display.
By purchasing items which the
public can use / handle it is believed that people will be able
to engage far better with the history we are trying to display.
These will be such things as wash
tub and dolly, scrub board, small [hand used] farming equipment
and other items which can be safely handled by the public and
children.
This will help better
understanding in how people lived in the area just 100 years ago
together with costumes of the period.
