Coventry Peace Month 2006
Once again Coventry City
Council and various partner organisations in the city will be
co-ordinating Coventry Peace Month from Saturday 14th
October – Tuesday 14th November 2006.
The overall theme of Coventry
Peace Month 2006 will highlight the city's reputation for peace
and reconciliation. We are also encouraging events which
showcase the cultural diversity of Coventry and positive
relationships between communities.

The
story of the WW2 hostels and its effects upon Coventry’s diverse
population
Background
information on activity / event
The Willenhall Local History Group, have for many
years been researching the story of WW2 hostels here in Coventry
and on a national scale. This story remains one of few untold
major parts of Coventry’s war time history, and illustrates the
begins of the cities diverse population.
Please explain
briefly how the proposed event/ activity promotes peace:
The group will be displaying on broads rare and
unique photographs with text from many part of the world gained
during intensive research into this counties biggest ever
movement and influx of labour, both during and after WW2.
The display and talk / Power Point display,
illustrates the huge ethic diversity which was brought about
during the period between 1941 and 1950, with the movement of
people for the war effort and later reputation of personal from
all corners of the world.

pot
& don’t feed them rice!

 A
talk and slide show illustrating just how people from all
lifestyles and different cultures
worked, played, and lived together in
peace and harmony.
The talk is based on World War Two hostels and the story of the
people who used, worked, and stayed in them during and after the
war: the biggest organized
mixture of differing cultures, dialects and religions ever in
this county’s history.
