The last remaining building connected with the huge hostel complex here in Willenhall was demolished on the 18th December 2008 to make way for the building of a new house. Unfortunately the lack of forewarning did not enable us to photograph the inside of the house prior to it being knocked down

Photographs taken 23rd Dec 2008

Looking along Stretton Ave
from Stretton Ave towards the corner of Gunton Ave

This very strongly built outbuilding was used during the war as a Air Raid shelter
There once was a heavy steel door at this entrance
Looking towards Stretton Ave and the Willenhall [now called Stretton] school
Looking down the backs of the houses in Gunton Ave
Part of the original plaster and paint
One very old light fitting
The original chimney pot
Just a few days later the site had been cleared
Now just look at the size of these blocks, this is WW2 concrete!

The new 'Orbit' Housing Complex

As the new house take place to will add the pictures of the building
