The main London to Holyhead Road runs from Bottom to Top, with St James Land coming off halfway up and running down to the right hand lower corner

The map below shows that proir to the 1795 Turnpike road, the route of the original London to Holyhead Road, was down Dell Close and across the river behind the Chace Hostel, joining up with Abbey Road
The road would have run between the two trees pictured below
James Wyatts keep very detailed accounts of each farm he owned in Willenhall [all of them!]
 
 
The above two pages give detailed information on the cutting down and use of the trees in both Willenhall Woods. Wood from these trees was used to make the very first railway sleepers on the nearby London line.
